SPAN 303: Adv Spanish Grammar
Course Description: Reviews all phases of communication skills with practice in understanding, speaking, and writing grammatically correct Spanish. Teaches specific components of Spanish grammar: the Spanish verbal system, the subjunctive, ser versus estar, and other problematic aspects of grammar. Taught in Spanish.
SPAN 306: Culture/Civic Spanish Latin America
Course Description: This course presents a historical and cultural overview of Hispanic Latin America from its pre-Columbian origins to the present through works of literature, art, music, and video clips. Taught in Spanish. (Prereq: SPAN 201 or SPAN 202 or SPAN 212 with a C- or better)
JAPN 310: Japanese Cinema
Course Description: This course provides an introductory scrutiny of major Japanese directors and genres with attention to film composition, choices of subject and character, and the relationship of cinema to Japanese culture and society. Students will analyze and discuss cinematographic elements and cultural codes among a variety of film genres, production of their historical and socio-cultural context, as well as issues dealing with popular culture and equity. Taught in English. [Prereq: (GE Areas A1 and A2 and A3 and B4 with a C- or better) and (Junior or Senior Standing)]
LING 392: Nature of Language & Language Acquisition
Course Description: Nature of Language & Language Acquisition introduces the scientific study of language, which includes theoretical concepts (e.g. structural linguistics, sociolinguistics, language development in first and second language acquisition) and application of linguistics in reading and writing development. Students develop a knowledge base in linguistics, phonemic awareness, and syntax, and apply it in real-world educational settings. (May be offered as classroom-based, hybrid or online.)(Prereq: GE Area A1 and A2 and A3)
