MLO 1: LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Note: Final Language Proficiency is demonstrated via the STAMP Proficiency Exam in WLC 400: WLC Major Capstone
- Students are able to communicate effectively in Spanish in three modes: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational, and in a culturally appropriate manner in a variety of social and professional settings and circumstances at the Advanced Low level of language proficiency, according to ACTFL Guidelines.
Note: Final Language Proficiency is demonstrated via the STAMP Proficiency Exam in WLC 400: WLC Major Capstone
The outcomes for this MLO have been supported by the following courses listed below:
SPAN 212: Spanish for Spanish Speakers, WLC 300: Major ProSeminar
SPAN 301: Spanish Composition and Oral Practice, SPAN 303: Advance Spanish Grammar
SPAN 305: Spanish for the Professions, WLC 400: Major Capstone
Through completing this MLO in the various classes listed above I was able to develop my ability to effectively communicate in Spanish in the three modes: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational. Within the MLO I was able to develop my writing and oral skills, something that wasn't the best when I first started the program. In fact I had heavily relied on constantly looking up how to spell the simplest of words and had an extremely hard time trying to pronounce words that I thought I knew how to say. Within the MLO I wish to continue developing my oral skills because although I have drastically improved from where I started, I still have this need to have what exactly I’m going to say, word for word, written down so that I don’t lose track of what I’m going to say and I want to be able to just speak freely without that need. The areas that I found most challenging within the MLO was having to develop my ability to communicate in presentations. I was able to overcome the challenge by practicing what I was going to say so that way I already knew what was to come from presenting. Overall this MLO has helped me grow my personal intellect through pushing me to learn how to effectively communicate in Spanish.
