Seeks the exposition of indigenous and Hispanic historical and cultural foundations of the region and the confluence with other Asian and European influences.
Fulfills- MLO 3: LITERARY AND CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE
Reflective Narrative: In this course I was to discover the story of indigenous peoples of the southwestern United States: Aztlan, the Spanish colonial period, the Mexican period, and the acquisition and settlement by the United States. I was to do so through seeking the exposition of indigenous and Hispanic historical and cultural foundations of the region and the confluence with other Asian and European influences. In order to fulfill MLO 3, I had to investigate the ways of thinking, the behavioral practices and the cultural products of Hispanic societies through the history of Aztlan- the Southwestern United States. Something that I wish to further develop is my understanding of the lives that were deeply affected by moving to the Southwestern United States and the impact that they had on the country. This course relates to my personal life because as I was learning about the people that were in the Southwestern United States, I was also learning about my own history as a Mexican-American and a chicana. After completing this course I intend to do further research on the impact that those originally living in the Southwestern United States had overall, in the country and in the communities. Below I have attached my final writing piece that I completed, which was on the chicano identity and how it is a political statement when one is identifying as such.
