SPAN 325: Hispanic Cinema
Course Description: This course will examine the multiple ways that Hispanic and Brazilian filmmakers have seen Hispanic world, its people, religious beliefs and cultures for more than a century. This course provides the student with a range of perspectives on cultural developments in Spain, Brazil, Latin America and the Caribbean from the colonial to the modern period, using critical and literary texts as well as films.
Fulfills- MLO 3: LITERARY AND CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE
Reflective Narrative: In this course I was to examine the way various Hispanic and Brazilian filmmakers have portrayed their view on the Hispanic world, in regards to its people, religión, beliefs and more. I did so by viewing a variety of films that documented such topics and readings that supported these films. In order to fulfill MLO 3, I was able to gain an understanding of Hispanic societies through film. Something I wish to further develop is my understanding of Hispanic societies through other various mediums. This course relates to other courses that I have taken that have shown the Hispanic world through a variety of mediums, through literature, testimonies, art and more. After completing this course I intend to take what I have learned and continue on it. What I mean by that is I want to continue watching films that portray the Hispanic world because the films that I do watch I am unable to relate to on a personal level and I usually watch just to watch it, there’s nothing to learn from it. Below I have attached the presentation that I did for the film ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ by Guillermo del Toro, it was to show a brief analysis of the film and the context that it holds within.
